MLB Star Pitcher Brandon Webb Reels in $100,000 for Charity
Los Cabos, Mexico (PRWEB) January 25, 2009 -- In some of the world's best sport fishing waters, superstar pitcher Brandon Webb caught the biggest prize of all: $100,000 for his charity benefitting critically ill children. The second annual Brandon Webb K Foundation Celebrity Fishing Tournament was held in Los Cabos, Mexico January 9 - 11, 2009, hosted by Quivira Los Cabos (www.quiviraloscabos.com) - a luxury resort community.
Attendees were divided into teams before boarding luxury sport fishing yachts at the world Cabo San Lucas Marina for a full-day, chartered expedition in the sparkling, Marlin-rich waters at the tip of the Baja peninsula. Joining Webb were celebrity guests including fellow MLB Diamondbacks Adam Dunn and Chris Snyder, Baseball Hall of Fame Member Wade Boggs and Basketball Hall of Fame Member Rick Barry. The goal was to catch the most Marlin and raise funds for the K Foundation in the process.
After tallying the total amount of fish each team caught, the anglers on Boggs' team won the competition - and bragging rights - with an astounding 14 marlin caught in one afternoon.
"Mission accomplished," said Webb after the total fund amount raised was disclosed. "We more than doubled what we did last year. I couldn't be happier."
After the long day at sea, participants returned to home base at Quivira Los Cabos, Mexico's premier residential resort community, where they were wined and dined in true celebrity fashion. Quivira was honored to host and sponsor the event for the second year in a row.
"We are proud to support Brandon Webb and his foundation," said Ernesto Coppel, Quivira's developer. "Social responsibility is the core value of Quivira. As a development team we are committed to activities that benefit the community and look forward to an ongoing partnership with Brandon and his foundation."
"Each year the event and results get better and better," said Webb. "I'm already looking forward to returning to Quivira for next year's tournament. It provides the perfect venue and backdrop for this adventure."
The K Foundation's mission is to improve the lives of critically ill children throughout Arizona by providing daily support and life changing experiences and was established in 2004 as an independent chapter of The PRO Foundation (501c3). Since its inception, the K Foundation has raised nearly $350,000, which has been used to fund the Foundation's programs to provide assistance to over 150,000 critically and chronically ill children.
